M & K in San Diego

the west coast adventures of two east coast kids

0 notes

In late January, K’s dad and his wife Claudia came into town to visit. They arrived on a Friday evening just in time to join us for some Extraordinary Desserts, and then we all turned in early to give them time to adjust to West Coast time. Early Saturday morning, we all ran a(nother) 5K together. This time, we headed to SDSU’s beautiful campus for a race benefiting the university’s baseball team. K’s dad and Claudia are both avid runners and were very excited to have a race to look forward to, and we all enjoyed the festive atmosphere. There were Aztec players signing autographs, and Stephen Strasburg and Tony Gwynn were both on hand to high-five the early finishers of the race! K & M had a pretty good race, but nothing compared to K’s dad, who finished fourth in his age group - what a champ.

After the race (and after having cleaned up a bit), we headed out to enjoy the beautiful day. We ended up on Coronado for lunch, followed by an impromptu visit to Seaport Village to see if we could get onto a Seal Tour. We could! We spent about an hour wandering the shops in the village before enjoying a Seal Tour which featured more wind, and also more wild dolphins, than we had bargained for! It was freezing but worth it for the terrific tour and encounter with beautiful sea life.
